Just do it.
That’s the theme for this week of the Art & Soul Reloaded-A-Long. Quit procrastinating. Quit thinking about it.
As Pam Grout points out in her book, Art & Soul Reloaded, the inspirational messages aren’t the important part of these exercises.
I love inspirational messages as much as the next person. They make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and create an euphoria in my mind which in turn, makes me feel kind of like a superhero.
But that feeling will eventually wear off. It always does.
So what is the important part? The activities.
I’ve read plenty of personal growth books that contained activities and exercises to do while reading. I skipped most of them, thinking I’d get to them eventually. Guess what? I never did. I’m changing that with this book though.
This week’s exercise is to make an artist’s amulet. One that identifies you as an artist, writer, painter.
But I’m a writer, you say, I’m not into arts and crafts.
So what? Try it anyway. The point of these weekly exercises are to stretch your imagination, to try new things, to come up with creative ideas.
I’m a knitter. But I decided to make my amulet out of an etched piece of metal that I created.
It’s not pretty. It’s not fabulous. But I enjoyed stretching my wings and trying out a new craft.
A couple of minor creative endeavors that Pam suggests for this week are paining a pair of old tennis shoes and eating breakfast at place you’ve never been to before. I’m definitely doing that one.
So this week, just do it. Share your stories in the comments, and have a great week!
